CHAPTER FOUR

Benedict shook in agony. He had never unwittingly frightened a woman before and he didn’t know what to do. Lottie feared him. Their love-play had been going so well up to that point. In bed, they were evenly matched, and now he had ruined everything. How could he hope she would want more from him beyond this night after his blunder?

Women became whores for a reason and more often than not had no choice in the matter. He should have asked, not tied her while she slept the sleep of an exhausted and satisfied woman. But he’d had one last fantasy to fulfill. One he had whispered to a lady once and received an expectation of mutual enjoyment. How wrong he had been. The woman he had told his secret desires had trusted him completely. Lottie did not.

Not for the first time, he wished he could go back in time, alter the course of history, and hold on to the woman he’d loved. The woman he had planned to marry. Charlotte had matched him in desire, in love and in curiosity. Benedict doubted he could find a woman to permit the liberties she had allowed and encouraged during their courtship. Heartbroken by her disappearance, he hadn’t even tried until now. He missed Charlotte’s unique presence and despite this night of hedonistic pleasure, her absence cut into his soul and left him bleeding all over again.

The woman before him was not to blame for not being whom he needed, but he wasn’t heartless to her fears. He held the spoon of creamy trifle before her and waited, hoping his subservience would calm her. More than anything else, he wanted Lottie’s trust again. Judging from the lightening sky beyond the glass, dawn approached. He had little time to make this right again.

Lottie leaned forward and opened her mouth to sample his offering. She licked the silver clean and eased back, waiting for his next action. Relieved, he hurried to offer another bite to the woman whose ravenous enjoyment of food and life he envied. She turned to face him and the weak light exposed her pointed nipples. He wanted to taste them, draw them into his mouth and hear Lottie cry out her enjoyment again.

Now was not the time for her to notice his cock stood as straight as a new village signpost. Her soft hand clasped over his on the spoon, and Benedict cautiously tugged her closer. She came willingly, settling her palms against his chest. While he slipped the laden spoon between her lips, she found his nipples and tweaked them hard.

Benedict placed the dish and spoon on the floor and eased her into his embrace. Bare, lush skin glided over his and he held back the groan he wanted to utter. He let his fingers course her back, finding dimples on her spine, and he smiled while he played. Lottie twitched closer, away from his tickling, and a low chuckle escaped her lips.

Relieved to have calmed her, Benedict continued his soft caress.
